View Full Version : A little confused on what went wrong...

I'm not really a newbie to Tivo hacking. I hack my first series 1 Tivo about a year and a half ago. Did a second one shortly thereafter. I recently aquired a series 2 SA TCD140060 that already had Tivo OS 4.01b-02-2-140 on it.

I followed the Hinsdale guide to upgrade the HD to a 120 gb drive no problem. I thought to myself while doing this, "Well I'm this far with it out of the Tivo I might as well finish the hack and get telnet and tytools working..."

I d/l'ed the tivoscripts ISO and proceeded with following the prompts under the "p" section. Everything went fine absolutely no errors at all. But even though all of the utils and scripts installed, an rc.sysinit.author to load the cool new utils was created under /etc/rc.d none of it works. The Tivo still boots, has the new additional HD space, works flawlessly but none of the hacks work. I have no telnet or tytool server.

What went wrong? Did I use the wrong tivoscripts ISO? Did use the wrong option on the tivoscript ISO menu? Anyway a little help please I don't know where to start with getting the hack finished now.

Sorry for the long post. I wanted to include as much info as possible to help get the best answer to my delima.

I am still pretty new to this but I will try to answer your question.

As I understand, the 'P' (or prom) option in TivoScripts is only for use if you have had the PROM in your Tivo physically replaced with a hacked PROM.

Generally, you want to use the 'M' (monte) option on a Tivo which has not had the PROM replaced.

I hope this helps.

Dave

the tivoscripts.iso from my understanding is for S2 directTiVos perhaps I am wrong on this, but I don't think it was intended for an SA.

I think maybe Dave is on the right track to a solution. The prompts do ask you if you are modifying a SA or DTivo. So I believe the tivoscripts ISO will work with the SA. I think I just chose the wrong option on the menu.

dave4089 hit it right, not such a newbie after all.

Running the "m" option did it. Of course I had to replace some of the utils installed because they were too old and gave the "Superblock" error, but after replacing them it all works now.

Thanks guys!
