I am wondering if it would be possible to set up my extra router, to have it's own network info, using my laptop. And then hook up the router next to the Tivo and run an ethernet line from the Tivo to the router, and be able to access it that way, via wireless, it is a wireless router BTW. It sounds like it may work, but since my tivo would be the only thing wired into it, and it wouldn't have an internet connection, I am wondering if this would cause any issues. Thanks in advance,
AC

Edit: While talking about my network and Tivo, when I hook up an old, and I mean old, 4 years, D-Link DSB-650 to my Tivo and then to my router, I get an orange light instead of a green light. I've tried using this device with my laptop, and when I do that I get a green light. Any suggestions on what I may have to change to get the light green? Or if you recommend a new device, what would be a good one to use with Pegasus drivers.

Nevermind... Makes more sense after the first cup of coffee, and JohnSorTivo explains it ;)

If you can configure your router to work in "bridge" mode, then yes, this can be done. If not, then you need to buy a wireless bridge rather than a router. I'm assuming you want to do this to use wired drivers for your Tivo, into your bridge/router, that then connects to the rest of your network wirelessly.

Many do this, myself included, in order to achieve 802.11g wireless speeds, since wireless G drivers are not widely available, if at all.

I will see if I can bridge it, but if I can't, would it be do able to give it it's own SSID and then just connect to it wirelessly whenever I need to, just by switching networks? I already have this router laying around the house collecting dust, and just thought I would see if I could get some use out of it.

Seems like in theory this should work, but as you mentioned, I would think it would be a bit cumbersome to constantly change between networks each time you want to access your Tivo.

What USB network adapter do you have for plugging into your router? I recommend the Netgear FA120 to be used with the ax8817x driver.

A D-Link DSB-650. It's about 4 or 5 years old, but it still works I am guessing, since I could use it on my Laptop and be able to connect to a network. It's not that I would be accessing the Tivo all the time, just maybe once a week to get the shows I want off it.

On my router the difference in color has to do with whether you connected a 10 or a 100 MB device. Could also be a duplex/half-duplex issue.

What do you mean by duplex/half-duplex issue?

Duplex (full duplex) mode means both directions work at the same time full speed. Half-duplex mode means only one direction works at full speed at a time.

Started reading my router's manual, not just skimming it like I normally do for info, and in one small blurb it says that green is for 100MB connection Amber is for 10MB...Reading is great.

Well I tried to setting up the network that way, but it appears that the root of my problem is that my IP address on the Tivo will not Change from 127.0.0.1 no matter what I assign it in my rc.sysinit.author file it goes to that IP address. Any way to change it manually or any thing I need to post up here so you know what I might have to change.
