I finally got cable at my apartment, and after finding nothing on when I want it. I'm going to take the plunge.

Circuit city has both of these with rebates. The TCD540040 is $100 and the TCD24004A is $50.

I've just read so many conflicting stories. I plan on doing what ever is possible.

First thing will be Tivo Service Emulator.
Next will be TivoWebPlus
Then.. you name it: ftp, extraction, etc.

I heard that the Silver one uses more CPU than the black ones. But then some sites say that the Series2 just plain isn't hackable.

So, what'd you guys say?

1 - There is no conflicting information. The TCD540040 requires a hardware modification to be hacked.

2 - You will receive no help here with service emulation. Pay for your service.

For now, stop searching anywhere but here.

I agree with lenroc, you're in the place with ALL the information.

The 'black' ones (S2), are infinitely hackable... DIVE IN!

I just found the thread referring to the "silver" one as the 2.5 series

Will the plain 2.0 series not require any eprom work?

And as far as the whole Service Emulation thing. Viva Canada.

Sort of. I know of a few people on here running service emulation (and I have in the past, before I moved away from Canada). But what people are saying is that this isn't the place to talk about that.
