Hello all,

I have a Standalone Series 2 Unit (TCD1400060) that is connected to my PC running XP Home. I was using the ,#211 dialing prefix to do my daily calls via serial PPP and everything worked well.

Over the weekend I monte'd the unit and everything went well and I can get a bash prompt and all but now the unit won't connect via serial ppp anymore.

I'm not sure what exactly is wrong but I'm wondering if it has something to do with the fact that the console is using the serial cable now and when I try to do a daily call it's also trying to use the serial cable. I tried to disable the console by removing the "dsscon=true" command from the bootpage and it did disable the console but the connection to TiVo still fails.

Sorry for the newb type question and if I've overlooked something really obvious.

Thanks for any help!

The other thing is that now you're running a BASH shell on the serial port too... IIRC you'll need to disable that for serial PPP to work again. (Hint: it's in the rc.sysinit.author)

Everyone: If this info is incorrect, please feel free to correct it! I've never resorted to serial PPP so I'm only guessing...

I'll take a look at the rc.sysinit.author file.

Yeah, normally I wouldn't resort to using the serial PPP either but the modem is toast in the unit and I haven't got around to getting a USB network adapter yet. In a few weeks though, everything will be good and I'll be connecting via ethernet.

Thanks again for the help.

Ok. I checked the rc.sysinit.author file and there wasn't really much in there, just something about starting some TPM file thing. I did however check the rc.sysinit file and at the end I found this line:

exec </dev/ttyS2 >& /dev/ttyS2; /bin/bash

So I put a # in front of it and saved the file and put the drive back in the TiVo, rebooted, tried to call out with the ,#211 and still didn't work.

Here's the command I typed to set the bootpage for the drive, would the dsscon=true command be stopping communications I wonder?

bootpage -P "root=/dev/hda4 dsscon=true BASH_ENV=\`mount\$IFS-n\$IFS/dev/hda14\$IFS/mnt;echo\$IFS/mnt/runmonte\`" -C /dev/hdb
