error:broken socket

When trying to use tytools to extract video, I amm getting the following error message:
attempted to write to a broken socket
#1 failed to write to stdout

The only reference I can come across mentions that maybe it's trying to use single socket instead of double, but this checks out ok

any help appreciated (UK user, thomson tivo, windows xp pro)

I was having this same problem. In your tivo client - make sure that the directory specified on your windows computer actually exists. I think the default was C:\DTivo or something like this. Either make this directory, or browse your computer for a directory that you want to place the downloaded streams into. This should get rid of the broken socket problem.

I recently had a similar error message, and it ended up being my ZoneAlarm firewall. Even though it was disabled, it was still causing problems. Enabling kept right on working. Go figure.
