I believe Hitachi drives are the same as IBM which are definitely not recommended for Tivo use.

I've tried 3 or 4 IBM drives I a few years ago. 1 would boot correctly in the Tivo and it would generally go into a reboot loop in the first week. Using the IBM disk utils or spinrite showed the drive as functining correctly. All of the drives are still working fine in pc's. My Tivo simply would not operate correctly with them.

I got a Hitachi 250GB a month ago with the Outhouse deal and it seemed to work fine in my Toshiba SD-H400 (no expansion, of course (yet))
