View Full Version : Anyone using Tytool's DVD Author to create chapters?

I've got a 3 hr baseball game edited with tytools and the gop editor.
When I vob mux the file I get a chp file for the chapters.
Everything looks good.

When using the Make IFO option is where I'm running into a wall. It seems no matter what I choose for the chapters (with the exception of the every X minutes) I don't get chapters. I've tried the cut points, and chapters. Both cases give me no chapters.

Do these options work? Docs don't say much and searching hasn't helped yet.

Jeff,

I've been playing with this the past few weeks. From what I think you have done is removed the comercials and created the vob file. If thats the case, you have only one big vob file. You will not be able to create more than one chapter in the menu if this is the case.

You would put in a title and then name the element as the name of the single chapter. make sure you set item and then you can click preview to see how it looks before you create the ISO.

If anyone has anything to add, please jump in.

I never used the chapters feature in gop editor, should I have?

So here's my process, pretty close guess...

Index ty file
Cut ty file, I never do anything with the chapters... This results in .cut file matching .ty file
vob mux the tyfile to create a .vob file
Create IFO file/Dirs

Mark the radio for chapters on cuts.
There's also a vob.chp file that's created during the vobmux process (I believe that's when it's created) Which has chapter points for what appear to the correct times for the chapters in the .vob file.

My ty working directory and output directory both point to the same spot, however my DVD fileset directory is a sub directory DVD within the same directory with all the other resouces.
For example:

tyfiles\ contains all my ty file resouces
tyfiles\DVD\ contains the menu resources from the create IFO and the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories

So, is it my directories that's screwing me up?

Or is it that every chapter must be a seperate vob file? That doesn't sound right, but maybe that's just the way it is.

Thanks!

create a key file of your edited result then go back into the editor to set the chapter points.

Fred, can you tell me how that chp file would differ from the one generated in the vob-mux stage? The times in the vob.chp file match exactly what I'd have in the one generated with VOBEdit. And renambing the file.vob.chp to file.chp didn't seem to help.

I'll try your suggestion, but I'm not sure how it will work. Of course if memory serves, I'm not even sure how the chapters get saved as I've never seen a "save chapters" setting, but it seems they get saved with the .cut file. And I'm not sure how the .cut file is used in the DVD authoring part.

I'm full of confusing points...

Oh, I misread your initial post. I thought you'd deleted the original CHP file. There's a setting in GOP editor which let's you specify how the chapter points are set.

Right, but those chapter settings are saved in the .cut file (the only file you can save from within the gop editor).

The .chp file is created during the muxing stage (I beleive) for me the file was the same name as the .ty file but .ty was replaced with .vob.chp so the file filename.ty and filename.vob.chp may not match up correctly. I did try to copy the .vob.chp file to .chp but still no luck.

Can you tell me what files you have and at what stages they get created? I'm really curious why this isn't working for me.

Just to restate it... chapters at cut points and chapter points don't work, chapters every X minutes do work.

Hey Jeff

I am having the exact same problem as you. Did you ever find out what was wrong?
