I was having a problem with my Tivo, and did what was the right thing to do.
Search the forums and see if someone else experienced similar problem.

I focused on key words to narrow my search.
here the order of things I searched for

Invalid button livetv
Invalid button clear
ContextTests
TmkTransform

would you be surprised if none of the above got any hits?
exactly, ZERO hits.
that didn't make much sense to me, at a board as good as this one, with so wide talent pool and no lack of posts.

so I continued my search

Get Validate
and I found this post
http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?p=138615&highlight=Validate#post138615

and look at the post, it has one of the above keywords
TmkTransform

How could search for TmkTransform return no hits?

This is truly an amazing board, but with a flaky search feature, I'm afraid it diminishes it's value greatly :(

I hope someone with powers looks into this.
Just imagine the flood of noob repeat posts just because of this.

On the other hand if the problem is isolated to me, please kindly advise me of my problems.
I doubt that it is the case,

For reference here's my full search options.

Keywords: TmkTransform
Search Entire Posts
User name <left blank>
Find Thread with at least 0 replies
Finds Posts from any date and newer
Last posting date in descending order
Search results as Posts
Search all open forums
Also search in child forums

Oh yeah, and I still have to find the answers to my problem, the above match wasn't really applicable to my problem.

TmkTransform::Trace[168]:
is treated as one word, so searching for TmkTransform won't find it

searching for TmkTransform* finds it correctly

Thanks Riley for the response.
I must admit that I'm pleasantly surprised that I got a response on this side of the board.

I had my hopes high, but the only matches that I found for
TmkTransform*
or
*TmkTransform*
were this thread.

Are you finding good matches when you do teh search.
is it possible that I have some bad setting somewhere.

I hate to post a repeat question if the answer is out there, but I was almost ready to post it and saw this response.

I'll hold a little longer, but my TmkProblem had started bugging me.

Thanks again for looking into this.

that particular example won't match because it's treated as a much larger word

there are definatly some glitches in the vbulletin 3.x sw. forums sw's not my bailiwick, but the collective "we" of management are aware of this and other issues

specific examples of problems are welcome. sometimes settings can be tweaked to compensate while bug reports are passed up the food chain to Jelsoft who will hopefully provide a fix
