Here is my setup.

- Wireless PCI card in my PC to connect to the net via my router in the livingroom.

- DTivo in my bedroom connected to my NIC in my PC via a crossover cable.

The problem I am having is I cannot extract videos from my tivo over my NIC and use my wireless PCI card to be online at the same time. Whatever network adaptor is enabled first takes presidence over the other and the second is useless. For example, if I disable bot my NIC and Wireless card and enable the NIC and then the wireless card, I will be able to extract videos from my tivo but not get online. If I switch the process around, I can get online but cannot get into my tivo.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to correct this? Do I have to put each NIC on a different subnet?

later,

Chris

No, not necessairly, but that would resolve your problem provided that you also don't configure the interface that goes to the tivo as your "default route" or "default gateway"

Is the PC a laptop with a PCMCIA wireless card? Is the wireless card a Linksys card?

It is a known issue that Linksys PCMCIA wireless cards can "behave badly" if a hard wired NIC or intergrated NIC is enabled at the same time. In fact, the Linksys manuals state to disable other network cards while using the wireless cards. http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=796&p_created=1084222846&p_sid=BiRt8roh&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MzgyJnBfc2VhcmNoX3R5cGU9c2VhcmNoX25sJnB fcHJvZF9sdmwxPSZwX3Byb2RfbHZsMj0mcF9zY2ZfbGFuZz0xJnBfcGFnZT0xJnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9b3RoZXIgbmlj&p_li=

Can you post your IP addresses, netmasks and routing information please?

I see no reason why both of these cant work together.

For example.

your router is 192.168.1.1
your wireless card is 192.168.1.2
the wireless netmask is 255.255.255.0

your ethernet Nic is 192.168.2.1
your tivo is 192.168.2.2
the ethernet netmask is 255.255.255.0

your default gateway on your laptop is 192.168.1.1

It is a desktop with an integrated NIC in the MOBO and a d-link PCI wireless card.

router is 192.168.0.1
wireless card is 192.168.0.101
wireless subnet is 255.255.255.0

ethernet NIC is 192.168.0.
tivo IP is 192.168.0.102
the ethernet netmask is 255.255.255.0

The problem is that your wireless card and your ethernet NIC are on the same subnet! They are both in 192.168.0.x

Log in to your TIVO and change the IP to be

192.168.1.2
netmask 255.255.255.0

your NIC in the desktop machine that connects to the TIVO becomes.
192.168.1.1 same netmask and broadcast as TIVO.

your wireless lan stays the same.

Once these changes are in place you have
tivo and your nic on the 192.168.1.x subnet
and your wireless lan is on the 192.168.0.x subnet.

now you can use both at the same time.
