I have a DSR7000 which I have running v4 of the software thanks to killhdinitd and the superpatch (thanks to all!!). The DSR is about a year and a half old. This is on a 160GB drive. I also have a RCA DVR80 which is about a month old. I took the drive out of the DSR and put it in the RCA fully expecting it to boot up fine, but instead I got the infamous:
Boot failed reason=60
Ram size = 64
Service number is 32100013061266A.
What is password?
This was right off the bat, with the jumper in the cable select position in the same manner that as the original drive which came out of the box (both western digital by the way). If I remove the jumper and boot as I do in the DSR, i get:
Partition 0 signature is false, trying alternate
diskboot found partition 0 signature is false.
Ram size = 64
Service number is 32100013061266A.
What is password?
Is there any reason why I wouldn't be able to do this?? I've read you can change the password, so I'm going to try and do that with the drive back in the DSR.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

Where to begin.... Don't count on being able to change your password. IIRC, it's saved in the crypto chip - on the motherboard.
The DVR80 is a RID unit, and won't run 4.x software. However, I'm a little surprised by the error messages you're getting. Hope the drive works in the DSR7000.

Oh yeah, it worked fine in the DSR previous and afterwards.
That's a bummer. I'm going to go back and read more on the RID machines.
So much for my MRV hopes for now, eh??
Thanks!!

No. Read the thread about the bounty for 4.x on RID units. The hack has been developed, and if enough money can be collected, will be released to the general membership.
One question: What is the software version on the DVR80? (this is given on the System Information screen)

My original Post was confusing. 4.X software that enables HMO and MRV will not work on the RID units with any available public hacks, however go here and help bring this new hack to light.

that's interesting, because these boxes look exactly the same without the covers off. I'd be more than willing to contribute to any effort. what good is having only 1 tivo running v4?? :)

I found the thread, and donated 75 bucks. I encourage everyone to do the same!!

we need to meet the goal to get the utils released - if the util stays private everyone that donated gets their $$$ back so there's really not a downside
</telethon hat>
*don't have a dvr80, but the dvr40's are happily running 4.0 & 4.0.1b on 160 & 250 gig drives

Has TiVo changed the prom in the DVR80's? Note he reports the drive (hacked with killhdinitrd) works perfectly in a DSR7000.

Check out my post here (using a DVR40):

It appears that the prom code on the DVR40 and DVR80 are expecting a larger kernel size than the older units.
I assume the rom code is somewhere in the CPU memory map. Has anyone written a program to dump it to disk? If so, I've got both a DVR40 and DVR80 and could compare them for you. I expect they're identical.

just bought a new SD-DVR80 off the shelf at best buy (manufacture date 15-Aug-04) and moved the 4.0.1b+RID config'd 160 over. the sw recognized the new crypto, reset the MRV/diskconfiguration keys and connected to the network w/o a hiccup
total time to crack the case, swap drives & begin streaming spongebob off a friend's unit 900 miles from here (gotta love vpn routers) about 5 minutes
*that image has both killhdinitrd'd 3.1.1c and old-skool 3.1u5 kernels (user selectable for testing) that monte into the lba48 kernel included with the 4.x+RID package
