Hi - It would be great if someone could give me a few answers to my questions if you have some time :)
I am inquiring about Dishnet, and curious about some comparissons to the DirecTV line as well.
I own a Hughes DirecTIVO Series 2 HDVR2 receiver, however since the HU cards stopped working I have not been able to use it. Now, I'm considering going into Dishnet, and with my DirecTV experience of 4 years (Back to the H Card days) I have no experience with Dishnet. However before I do that, if I decide to subscribe to DirecTV from Canada, how much will it cost to get all the channels I got with the HU card hacked per month? What subscription package would that be called? Also, I take it the sport passes won't be part of that either huh? Finally...with the TIVO upgraded in my receiver...and installed with lifetime tivo hack and some others...would that still work, or do I have to pay DirecTV to get that to work?
Finally...I have a few questions about about Dishnet and their DVR/Tivo receivers, and would really appreciate it if you could give me as much info as possible :)
1) How much recording time do dishnet receivers offer? My HDVR2 was upgraded and I believe I had upwards of 80 hours of recording time, and I would be very glad to hear of model recommendations, and reputable dealers to purchase from online or in/near Toronto Canada.
2) With the HDVR2, I could record 2 shows simultaneously, while viewing a show that was recorded previously to my receiver's Hard Drive. Is this possible with the receiver you recommend?
3) The HDVR2 came with quite a few hacks installed onto it...for example...Free lifetime subscription for TIVO. Able to send recorded programs to my computer via the USB2.0 output, and more .. No phoneline needed ..Tivo web interface ...Telnet .. fTP enabled ... No contract required... Are there any dealers that offer recievers like this for Dishnet?
4) What type of cards do Dishnet receivers use? What is the best possible card to get. What kind of programming device is needed to program/unloop? Do the cards require sub'd bins? Is there a website with step by step info on how to go about programming Dishnet, along with all the software available?
5) Do people in the Dishnet hobby have any predictions or reason to believe that the service will be unable to work ... the way DirecTV went for the HU? (Not really interested in spending money on something that will be an expensive decoration in a few months) :)
6) Is there anything the DirecTV HDVR2 receiver could do that this Dishnet reciever can't?
I guess the bottom line is that I was extremely happy with the Hughes HDVR2 with the capabilities it had, and the capabilities mine was given, and I want to purchase something that will run and do exactly what my DirecTIVO unit did or more.
I'd appreciate it if you could give me any input when you have the time.
Thank you for your time!
