Greetings,
I recently RMA'd a Maxtor 160GB drive. They sent back a 250GB drive.
I'm trying to use MaxBlast v3.10.35.11 (UTILITIES>SET HARD DRIVE SIZE) to set the Recommended Reported LBA to 268435455.
It ain't working. The drive keeps showing up in BIOS at 33GB .
These techniques have worked on previous drives.
What am I doing wrong this time around?
Best regards,

are you sure that you don't have the "cylinder limit" jumper set?
also, just out of curiosity, why do you need to do this? if you're wanting to use it in a tivo without a lba48 kernel, for example, just do your restore on the pc with a non-lba48 kernel, and it'll automatically limit the size to the 268xxxxxx lba.

Yup.

This will be the 2nd drive in an existing HDVR2.
I'm doing my first ground-up build using killhdinitrd. I used an fresh 3.1.1c image, which is as yet unexpanded. It's riding on a 160GB drive locked to 137GB using the techniques outlined in my first post - whoopie, a whole 9 hours of recording time :p
Given that I'll be using MFSADD to build the expanded partitions, what can I do to ensure that this new, secondary drive is safe for the long haul?
Over the years I've lost many a TiVo before learning that you had to lock large-capacity drives to 137GB, so I'm understandably nervous about this situation.
The formula in this post (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showpost.php?p=156098&postcount=1) brought me to the neighborhood. I took 137.44 / 250 * 490234752 (the native LBA) and ended up with 269511457.25952 .
The PC BIOS shows that this disk is now 136GB. You better believe I'm on a death search for that missing gigabyte :D
