I was curious if it is possible it get a DIRECTiVo onto a wired or wirless network so I can get updates over the internet.

I did a search, but was unable to come up with anything definitive.

Thanks.

As a matter of fact, yes (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39356). Note that the call to DirecTV always uses the phone line.

Pretty much just sending in the list of pay per view purchases that you made. If you never make pay per view purchases via the remote you don't need this call.

DirecTivos always get their guide data and software updates from the satellite. AFAIK, there is no way to change this.

I think that the software updates mostly came over the phone though it wasn't a guarantee. Guide info definitely comes over the satellite.

BTW, if you hack your tivo you will want to block software updates from being installed or it could wipe out your hacks at the least and render your tivo unbootable (until you fix it up) at the worst.
