View Full Version : safe to use the killhdinitrd
Hi, I have been reading the posts on the board and have yet to find this question answered. I used sleepers iso over a year ago to hack my sa s2 tivo. I first did this to upgrade the harddrive capacity. Now I would like to extract the video from the tivo, edit the video, and save the video for viewing at later date. It would appear that I need to use killhdinitrd to do this. Do I just apply the killhdinitrd hack? It appears that I dont but that I must do something else because I used the sleeper iso. If that is the case could you please give me direction so that I may continue my reading and learning experience?
Thanks,
Jera
P.S. If this has been answered I am sorry but I am very poor at searching. I am learning how to search better but when I searched for this topic I did not find an answer.
Two good posts for killhdinitrd are "image won't take" and "project 2" both started by linda. do an advanced search by posters name. I found that you will need to look at several posts, as there is no step by step "guide". Read the two posts mentioned above from start to finish (may take a couple of times, to get a grasp of it) and any others searching for killhdinitrd.
As far as the rest of the hacks needed to do what you want, search for mfs_ftp, Tytools ect.
I did find that once you get an idea how it works, the killhdinitrd method is faster than sleepers.
Thanks for the direction I am reading the posts now. I have to say tho that I have done sleepers iso already when I first got the tivo over a year ago. After reading the threads it appears I must set my tivo image to the original before moving on.
Thanks,
Jera
There is a post about undoing Sleepers using killhdinitrd. I chose to start fresh. Just didn't like the idea of leaving stuff behind from Sleepers.

Unsleepering a drive is not that hard. It can even be done while in the unit.
Take a look at this thread Unsleep (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39580)
Thanks so much. I have to say that this forum is the closest thing to people having the "hackers" mentallity. Everyone wants to help, no one wants to keep information private, and most importantly they all are hacking. What a great forum. I wish all information was as easy to come by as this. Keep up the great work people!
Thanks,
Jera
