do i need a phone line ?

sorry if this is too simple, but i was wanting to get a directv dvr and they tell me i have to have a phone line connected, or in 31 days it will not record anymore. I only have a cell phone, and don't want to have to buy a land line just for this. I have no problem paying the 4.99 a month to directv for use, just dont want to spend another 35 a month for a phone line. thanks

I have a Philips DSR704, Series 2 DirecTivo. It works great without a phone line connected. I have to order PPV on the Internet, but other than that, it has been working since August.

Worst case: Use killhdinitrd and set up fixsub to remove the nag. Order PPV via the internet.
