I got to thinking that a thread that contains the "golden rule/s" for Guide Writers, Software Developers, and Software Integrators would be a good thing. There are a lot of flames/discussion etc on what I would consider common sense things such as give credit where credit is due. However, I have learned that what is common sense to one person is not to another.

What I propose is that we document some of the "common sense" items such as:

Guide Writers:
1. If you cut and paste from someone elses guide/thread to your "Super Guide" at a minimum document at the begining of the guide where the information came from. If you change any information, document what changes you made to it...

Software Developers:
1. Document your distribution requirements/wishes. Make this informatation easily identifiable.
2. If the distribution requirements/wishes change make sure that you "broadcast" the fact that it has changed. Don't assume that everytime you deploy an update everyone reads the T's and C's.
3. If you develop a product that is based on someone elses work give credit where credit is due and respect theirs wishes on distribution (see 1 above).

Integrators:
1. Respect the wishes (see above) of the software developers that you are putting in your product.
2. Unless the software explictly states that you can use the product as you see fit coordinate with the SD's prior to inclusion.
3. In the documentation of your product put recognition as to where the included software came from.
4. If a product does not have any documentation as to the distrubiton requirements do not assume it is FREEWARE. At a minimum post a thread on this board attempting to locate the originator so that you can coordinate with them.
5. If you intend on making money off this product make 1000% sure that you have done the above..

These are just my thoughts, feel free to add and subtract from this list. I ask you keep it flame free and we have a serious discussion. Elders, speak up. I will be happy to add your thoughts to this post. Mod's, if this is something that you consider a good thing please keep the thread clean of junk.
