Hi, Apologise if this is an old problem (but I cannot find a reference)

When I play back DVDs created from my TiVo I find that when it comes to a chapter point the video freezes. If I then press next chapter button it plays until the next chapter point when it freezes again.

I am extracting using TyTools (ver17) and editing out the adverts (sorry commercials for those over the pond) with the Gop editor. Creating the menus, .vob’s, etc with TyTools and burning with Nero 6.3.1.20 TiVo is a UK Thompson series 1 with 120 GB and TurboNet.

My DVD player is a Samsung HT-DM150 home cinema system. I am using various DVD+/-R media burnt on either my laptop or NEC 2510A in my desktop.

I lent a disk to a friend at work who has a much older DVD player and he had no problems. This is driving me crazy. My hard drive is now full of programs I want to burn to DVD but I must either put up with no chapters or find a solution.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are the chapter points in the same location as the cut points? Chapter points shouldn't cause freeze but I could see the cuts causing a freeze on some players.

Also have you played these dvd's in powerdvd or windvd to see if they exhibit the same behavior there? I have a funny feeling that your dvd player is being brutally picky.

I don't know if it's my DVD player or what? The chapter points and cut points are different.

It plays all the other DVD's I have created in other packages. Only TyTools seems to have a problem.
But this is the fastest way of making the DVD's. Otherwise it seems to take hours to convert from TY format (or vob) and make the DVD.

Wow, so it's not just me. Some more data points:

1) Save behavior burning with Nero 6.3 and 6.6
2) It seems to afflict computer DVD drives more than standalone DVD players. I've gotten the same behavior on a laptop Matshita DVD-ROM, a desktop Panasonic DVD-ROM, and a desktop Sony burner. A couple of DVD players I have in the house worked fine.
3) Behavior depends on both the drive and the player software. Windows Media Player 10, and Real Player 10 lock up with all the drives above, but Nero Showtime 2 (comes with Nero 6.6) works with the Pany and Sony, but locks up on the Matshita (guess which drive I most want to use with burned ty videos :-( ).
4) Lockup is definitely based on chapter points, not cuts.

I was going to try and scare up some different burning software to see if it's Nero or the VOBs produced by TyTool. As vitesse67 reports, I've never seen this behavior with commercial or Pinnacle authored DVDs.

Anybody else seen this, or have any ideas?

Just tried PowerDVD on the Matshita--it worked fine.

Has anyone else tried to play a TyTool created disk with the Real Player or Windows Media Player?
