Hi,

I've been contemplating a little project for myself, and I'd like to get all y'alls feedback on this idea.

My requirements stem from the desire to listen music files that are stored on the Tivo itself. I want to browse and play the music the same way I'd play a recorded video. I want to store my media in one place, and I don't like having to turn on my PC each time I want to serve music to my home theatre system.

I was thinking of writing a lite server application that publishes files kept in a partition on the Tivo drive, then in the HMO settings, have the Tivo loopback to itself as it would a remote server. One could then see and play the songs on the Tivo drive thru the HMO menus.

Transfer of the music files to the Tivo would be via FTP.

So waddya think? I'm open to criticism on this so let it fly.

BTW, I also thought of converting the files to .ty streams and browsing music that way. IE: Put make a whole album be a single ty and browse them thru NowPlaying. Comments on that would be appreciated too. I am sure someone's thought of this before, I just don't see that there's been any action on it.

Best,
Dave

Is the java client open source? If it is I'd use it as an example of what would be neccessary on the tivo.
