I've been looking all over and can't find an answer to this question. Does anyone here know when TiVo was first released? I'm pretty sure it was in 1999, but does anyone know the month of its release? Any information would be appreciated.

I think I bought my first SA (14 hour) in March of 1999.
I was a pretty aggressive early adopter, but I didn't buy it pre-release. I had heard about it for a while by then, but I waited until it became more affordable at around $300 for 14 hours.
So, my recollection is pre- 3/1999 and late 1998 seems to ring a bell.

The company itself started up in June of 1998
Work on the famous peanut remote wasn't completed until September of 1998.
I'd say it really showed up in the wild in 1999, and got more mainstream accepted in 1999 and became more of a phenominon in 2000 - 2001.

In fact, it seems that I WAS indeed an earlier adopter then I thought. Research yields the first Tivos shipped in March of 1999.
