View Full Version : Software Updates
If I allow a software update on my hacked (sleepered) tivo... will it just be like a normal tivo again? Become scambled agian.. etc? I really just want MRV with the new tivo im getting =[ w/o hacking it because I am not excited to do that.

When the TiVo installs the initial software upgrade on the original Monte'd drive you will wind up witha non-standard partition layout. I'm not sure of what a subsequent upgrade will do, but it probably will be bad.
I would suggest you take the following steps:
Killhdinitrd your present drive. http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showpost.php?p=196162&postcount=3 (Do NOT include 'upgradesoftware=false' in the boot parameters).
Use TiVoweb to see if your system has downloaded an upgrade (If it has been hacked for more than a few months, it probably has). If it has, run installSw.itcl to install the upgrade. Since you want a 'stock' system, it isn't necessary to block the reboot. At that point you will have a stock system with the latest software version.
(Note: It might be possible to simply install a stock (unmodified) kernel, adjust the bootpage, etc, and let the new kernel remove your hacks. Personally, I'd be reluctant to try that - I'm not sure that nothing would go wrong as your system tries to restore the original software.

OK, that would restore my Tivo to a unhacked one...
Problem is.. I just ordered a harddrive for my new tivo lol.. gave up and just figured I would hack it too... So then they will both work right?
