Trying to FTP slices to var/packages. Once I transfer over about 200K I get the following error message:
An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine.
I have to reboot my tivo (HDVR2) if I want to connect to it. My software version is 3.1.1e. I didn't have any trouble when I was using prior software. I copied over my rc.sysinit, rc.sysinit.author and network modules when I upgraded. There doesn't seem to be anything in any of the error logs. I'm using smartftp, transferring in binary mode.
I unzipped the 4.X slice files. I don't know of any reason why I shouldn't be able to FTP them, in binary mode, to my tivo.
problem solved Read too many posts, guides and I no longer had & on the command line that started tivoftpd. Some people didn't seem to think it was needed.
I hadn't had a problem in the past but the newer tivoftpd and the newer tivo software causes a lockup after a few a few minutes of D/L unless the & is added to the command.
