View Full Version : 2.5 + 2 = ???
OK.. I ordered a refurb thinking I would get one of the old black Tivos, it came today and it is a new "2.5" Tivo... I want to have MRV on both of them, is the best plan to "unsleeper" the original S2?
Can I just throw in my old HardDrive?

Can I just throw in my old HardDrive?Do you have anything to lose by trying it to see? If you don't use the new drive, you can't really hurt it...

Is there any reason putting my original tivo hard drive to replace the sleepered hard drive would not work?
Isnt that why I kept my old one =]

As I understand it, you MUST prom-mod a 2.5 tivo, since there is no soft-hack available yet to kill the kernal. Putting in a sleeper'd drive (BTW, SLEEPER BAD!) will just result in a Tivo that won't boot.
I know... what I want to do is to make MRV happen. Which means I would need 2 unhacked Tivos... So could I put my old S2 HD that I replaced with the Sleeper'd one, back in the sleeper'd tivo.. This would be the easiest solution right?

Indeed, that would be the easiest approach. The only disadvantage would be that you would lose any recordings. IF your hacked drive is at the same software version as the original drive, it is possible to copy the active partitions from the original drive to the hacked drive using the dd command; reset the bootpage and boot parameters, and save your recordings. The last time I walked somebody through this, it took a couple of evenings to get us on the same page and complete it.

OK. I am just going to put the old hard drive in there then.
OK, installed the new hard drive... It is all updating and seems to work great...
Is it possible to use the old hard drive in my pc? How hard is it to format into FAT32 or NTFS?
