x-mas tivo

well i bought my dad a tivo for x-mas and im gathering info on how to hack it.
first of all i know i have a series 2 and the model number is TCD540040
what can i do with this version of tivo....can i upgrade to a larger hd and can i also use the various "aftermarket" utilities?

btw is there a list of utilities and an explanation of what they do?
i tryed searching and nothing good came up

one more thing....i have a extra 200gb hard drive laying around but a windows system has already been installed on it....can i jst format it and use it in the tivo?

A search for TCD540040 shows this is what is being referred to as a series 2.5.
I believe, at the current time the only way to hack the box is with a PROM mod.

I would return it and get a hackable box, if you are looking to have that option.
