couple of questions:

1) is it possible to capture ( by linking or however) guide slices on directivo- I assume you'd have to run a program which wakes on occasion and links any file in a given location.

2) if I could capture a slice in this way, could it then be dbloaded into another tivo to provide guide data??

3) if the answers are yes and yes, can anybody provide advice for the directories to target, filenames, etc.?

This seems that it would be useful for the canadians, etc... the guide data may not be great for the locals, but it should be the same >100. If they can remap channels, then it might be an easy solution.

The DirecTivo downloads program data directly into the database. You can get to the data with the dumpobj command under tivosh. The data is not stored in the same format, but much can be converted. Some of the data you will have to fill in.
