Okay...after trying to find this info here, and being unsuccessful, I went to the TiVo website suggested on my System Information screen, and found a list of supported wireless, and wired USB adapters.
http://www.tivo.com/adapters
I have 2 questions....
1. Does the approved on the list mean that it works "out of the box" (no extra drivers to install) with a 4.x image?
2. I have a DTivo (Philips DSR704), and I put the 4.x image on it from a CD I bought from PTV for a SA Series 2. What is my corresponding TiVo service number for the system this image goes to (TCD240080)?
Thanks,

1. Probably
2. It's whatever the Tivo service No. is for your Tivo. Look in the system information screen to find it. The TSN should match what's on the label on the back of the Tivo. If not then try a Clear and Delete Everything and it should match after it has completed.

Yes, I know what MY TSN is. It is listed on the screen, BUT what I am asking is this:
The table of adapters provided by TiVo asks for the first 3 digits of your TSN to choose an adapter. Since I have a DTivo (Philips DSR704), mine are 340 (I think), but that number is not shown on the table (because USB is not Supported for DTivo's)...so I am trying to find out what three digits correspond to a TCD240080, which is the image that I used, which will be one of the ones on the table.

It would be 240 then. The 240 is the model, the 80 is the hard drive size. Personally, I'm in love with the Netgear FA120's. I wouldn't have a Linksys USB200M (or 100m for that matter), the design sucks.

I'd definitely suggest that you make sure you're getting a usb2 device. At least you'll then have the option of getting better speed with the backport drivers, should you choose to install them. Typically this will boost performance from <.75Mb/sec to >3MB/sec.

I'm with Doc. The Rj45 conection is a joke on the USB200M.
Probably the worst designed product ever releases by them.
And isnt the FA120 like $25 cheaper.
Amazing how people buy names. Same thing spec wise just built much cheaper with a big name on it so its worth double.

Yes, I should have mentioned that. I have 4 right now (my first usb2/e-net adapter purchases). Used them for a short time then shelved them. 1 has a broken door, 1 has lost both of it's metal door retainers, and the other two have stress cracks on the door (only a matter of time until they break). I'm really surprised that they (Linksys) don't offer a usb2 adapter of the same form as their USB100TX, otherwise I'd have bought that.
As for pricing, the best I've seen the FA120 for is about $25/ea. w/free shipping (the latest ebay fiasco not withstanding).

These show up with vendor/product id's matching the Hawking UF200, which I believe are on the tivo list.

The vendor has a poor record for service. For about $22 you get it delivered from newegg.

I am using a Netgear MA111 that I got as a refurb at Fry's for $16. Works great.

I am using a Netgear MA111 that I got as a refurb at Fry's for $16. Works great. That's an 802.11b usb1.1 device, so throughput will be a small fraction (~ 1/5, I'd guess) of what you can get with a wired usb2 device. That may be acceptable if wireless is a critical requirement. There may be movement on the 802.11g front with the Tivo 7.1 software.

A Tivo representative stated that Tivo is planning on supporting 802.11g "sometime in 2005" at a CES show recently. Given that TiVoToGo has already begun the rollout process, I bet it will be a few months before we actually start to see the new module.

Running strings on CNXTSPDriver.o reveals "(c)opyright 2003 Intersil", which leads me to believe it may not be an open source driver. Maybe we'll find out when the 7.1 GPL'd source is released.
I saw the claim somewhere (probably TCF, so take it with a large grain of salt) that 802.11g support would be rolling out in Feb 2005.

I'm trying to find a good wireless solution myself. If I get MA111, which drivers did you use ScottB?

the OP question is the same question I had.
I have a hacked HDVR2 and my service ID starts with 151.
There is no 151 on that list since it's a wait for it, a DTivo!
I have a Belkin that works great and I am pretty sure it will work on my DVR40 as well, but is there a rule of thumb those of us with Hacked DTivo's can use?

the 7.1 stuff is now up at www.tivo.com/linux

Yes, I've been looking at it. No source for CNXTSPDriver, as expected.

I would have saved a few dollars if you had ordered sooner.
Resellerratings give them a 5.31 rating vs 9.50 for Newegg, I went with Newegg but would have gone with the lower price if you had ordered and posted before I ordered.
