activating usb ports on hughes dvr40

i've tried very hard to figure this out on my own but not much luck. i have a hughes dvr40 with 2 inactive usb ports that i want to activate so i can get it on a wireless network. i read about sleeper and killhdinitrd but not sure i'm technically competent to pull off that route...any suggestions?

Those are two of the simplest ways to hack your Tivo. If they are too difficult, then you are out of luck.
