:) I have been reading on these forums about getting the tivo's hacked. It's a lot of scattered information. All these hacks to get a tivo's hard drive modified.
Why don't people just make an image of an already hacked tivo drive available for download for each model? Then it would be as easy as using mfstools to do a restore... hacked. Saving everyone the trouble.

The reason we don't do it is because we enjoy the fun of hacking our Tivos. That's what this forum is all about. There wouldn't be much point in joining a hacking forum if the work was already done for you, now would it?

There is also a small matter of legality. TiVo takes a dim view of distributing their software without authorization. Vadim REALLY wouldn't want to get a letter from Tivo's lawyers.
Most of the hacks were released with some kind of restriction prohibiting redistribution. We REALLY wouldn't want to irritate the guys who created the goodies.
And lastly, there is the matter of funtionality. Would you really be interested in software which you could not maintain? If something went wrong, all you could do would be to restore the image AGAIN, losing all your recordings. Most of us would not look forward to explaining to a three year old what happened to her favorite episodes of 'Dora the Explorer'.

Besides, I TiVo has been cracking down on image distribution (except for Stan on TC).
Why mess with lawyers if you don't have to...
