TivoWeb on 3.x DTivo?

I have spent about an hour searching and browsing the forums looking for an answer to this question: can one enable the USB ports for networking and install TivoWeb (and tivoftpd) to a DirecTivo running 3.x Tivo software?

I don't need the HMO stuff since I have only one Tivo and another device to do the pictures, music, etc. So if I don't have to go the 4.x route that would be good.

If the answer is yes, maybe someone could give me a kick in the right direction...

I have previously hacked and upgraded my S1 Philips 112 Tivo. But haven't looked at anything about the subject since I did that nearly two years ago.
