Well I went and spent the money for InstantCake because I felt like supporting Lou's efforts. But when I suggested (nicely) that maybe the documentation could be improved in an area that a couple of us got confused by, I got fussed out. I made my suggestion privately because I didn't feel like making a public remark that might seem too critical, but in response I was asked to make any future comments publicly, instead of trying to save face for PTVUpgrade. Alright then.

Word to the wise: beware of posting on their forum if you don't feel like being treated like an *****. Just because you paid money instead of downloading the thing from bittorrent doesn't mean they care. Apparently they think you're doing them a favor just by being a customer.

Don't be ridiculous. You sent me a Private Message tellling me the documentation needed to be improved. You got a private message back with explicit links to the product descriptions and release notes where the details you overlooked were explicitly documented. If you dont' read it, improving it will do no good.

We don't offer private support for any of these tools; perhaps your private message should just have been ignored (in the future they will be).

You are welcome for providing you with the information you overlooked. And you are welcome for a response to your PM with links to the information you overlooked.

In the future, I'd recommend doing your reading before criticizing.

[edit: And by the way, we DO care. Which is why we spend SO much time responding to almost every post on our forum, even though most of the questions have been asked over and over and over and over again -- and in spite of the fact that the product documentation has the information in it, the questions STILL get asked.]

Some time back I asked them to give me a free copy of their software and promised that I would promote it for them in my signature file on DD which I did for a very brief time. After being told not to do that by two mods on DD, I pulled the signature reference and they got all upset with me. I have since purchased two versions of that software for different TiVos at a cost of around $50.00. I've even tried to reverse engineer the thing to get it to work and have yet to get it to extract one of their images without error. I'm out $50.00 and they banned my IP from the forums when I asked how to fix the problem. I did pay $5.00 for a CD that did work and they have discontinued that product. Mind you I did not even complain in the forum. I simply asked how to resolve the problem when my post was deleted and my IP banned so that I have to hide my IP in order to post there. Beware of PTV's Instant Cake. Digger the man's name on MSN if any of you would like to try getting him to chat with you in real-time. He is difficult to work with to say the least, and despite many attempts to get their images to work, they have not for me. They won't give you your money back no matter what so buyer beware.

FYI - here is the post that seems to have gotten you and dormouse so riled up:

As the links indicate, NetReady drives only come with FTP enabled by default, not TELNET; but there is information on how to get it running; hardly seems like recourse for a complaint, let alone a refund.
