One of the bulleted items in the e-newsletter I got e-mailed this am was:
• New 100-hour DVR with more interactive capabilities, available mid-2005
Anyone know if this is a TiVo unit or some other NDS system? Seems very soon considering they just demonstrated one at CES. Or is this a hint that they'll be rolling out HMO?

They still have the same vague answer about HMO and Tivo Desktop
"sometime in the future. the engineers are working on new features all the time"
I pressed for a more specific time frame but they don't know when still.
I would be surprised if the guy even knew what HMO and Tivo Desktop are.
They are trained to deal with Satelite issues and not Tivo issues

On that note TiVo lost a huge deal with comcast. Things arent looking so hot for TiVo's future:
Tivo walks away from comcast (http://www.pvrblog.com/pvr/2005/01/tivo_walked_awa.html)
I know I love my tivo and I've only had it for less than a month! I wouldn't want to be without it now :)

Ramsay pulled the plug at the last moment because he was convinced TiVo wasn’t getting paid enough money or given enough control over the service.
And this is what bothers me about tivo. They are too goddamned anal about their patents.

That email from DirecTv also saysDIRECTV plans to bring you the newest programming, the latest interactive capabilities and the very best technological advancements that, together, will change the way you see, connect and interact with television.
I know I sent off an email asking if they actually meant that, and if so when can we expect it.
I gave some specific examples of advancements they are missing out on.
I'm not optomistic.

I am going to replace my last Directv box with a DTivo befor they come out with the integrated box because I am not sure what it will allow. I have read that they were looking at ways of removing Payperview shows after time, and what level of control will the newly integrated DVR's allow. I know what I can do with my tivo and don't wnat to give that up easily.
Rambling,
Jay
