Just got posted on Slashdot a little while ago. Haven't browsed through this much at all but it might be helpful.

Sure would be nice if we could fully implement a remote remote control.

edit: wtf?!?!?! Who is this Leon Nichols who stole the name javahmo?!?! Looks like the whole thing is a ripoff of JavaHMO. Oh, look, it has a tic-tac-toe game. Geez!!!

wtf?!?!?! Who is this Leon Nichols who stole the name javahmo?!?! um... Isn't Leon Nicholls the author and project manager of Java HMO? about JavaHMO (http://javahmo.sourceforge.net/about.html).

Oh, heh, I saw the list below and that name wasn't in it. Speaking about "it", that's what I just stepped in with both feet.

Finally tivo adds a worthwhile feature. Unfortunately it seems heavily crippled. I really hope though that the UI's wont be bottlenecked and slow like the tivo's UI. For some reason I just have a very difficult time picturing anything running fast on a tivo.

Hmmm. Requires 7.1 running on the Tivo. That rules out my HDVR2 or any DirecTivo, at least for now....

I've searched about alittle bit, and I was surprized not to fine discussion of an idea that is not that unique but I have not seen it discussed to this specific suggesstion.

Why not develop a HMO/MRV server(PC - linux/win32/Mac) not unlike the JavaHMO project; but to include video streams.

It just seems a natural path for VOD - as you could have a PC on your network with a VERY BIG disc; and have the server appear as another MRV TiVo. Combine this with an scheduled task for extracting such as TyExtract and you have a system that will pull recordings archive to a server and allow any TiVo on the network with MRV to fetch for playback. I realy don't have much need for a server, as I already have 3 TiVos with MRV and can kinda get/store/view pretty much where and when ever. However With the recent addition of my HR10-250 hacked - and it's limited local storage, I find myself a need to unload some of the streams.

I know that MHO/MRV is not (yet) available for the HDTIVO but perhaps some day? Right now I use MFS_FTP to move things back and forth to my HR10-250 and it works Very well. BUT it would be nice to have built in to the TiVo GUI.

I seem to recall a project that runs with MFS_FTP server on a PC - and recall a time where there was a P1 hook and GUI feedback on TiVo but from what I recall that path/discussion has not proceeded ??

been there, done that

there's a couple of people that've done HMO compatable pc servers. one of the SDK pages states they'll add video support eventually so something along those lines will surface one of these days

the pc server + mfs_ftp patch + tivo gui is alive & well. don't use any of the public versions myself but I get pm/email all the time from folks that do

on the topic of stupid tivo tricks:

tweak the java mp3 server to monitor client activity and initiate fxp transfers to the client tivo. i.e. go to music & video, listen to a short clip and it imports a recording to the tivo

the java server can also monitor activity and change the list of available songs/videos based on what's been browsed - listen to something horrid 3 times to unlock the hidden stash of porn/music-videos/martha-stewart-reruns/whatever... ;)

With my luck the mp3 I setup as something horrid will be some current rap hit my kids love to listen to. :)

hummm..

the best I've done is TimeTrax my XMRadio to a shared folder to HMO so I can browse/listen to m XM content via my TiVo... Porn mumm done that via XBOX Martha Stewart? I thought that was beastiality?
