vivamus has just posted (http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=41388) a ".TiVo File DeMuxer/DeCrypter" in the Extraction, Insertion, & Streaming Support forum that takes a .tivo file, strips the drm and outputs .m2v and .mpa files. (thanks to vivamus, btw.:))

In a historical sense, is this the first time a "single step solution" (for .tivo files) has been released publicly?

As we're coming upon the fourth anniversary of nickhull's (in)famous public ExtractStream release, I'm just curious.

I'm sure there's a few private apps floating around that will do this, I'm just wondering if this is the first "public" version.

as i posted in that thread, this is essentially a programmatic way of doing something that's already been done (the graphedit demux/remux). it's very nice to have in a program that could be run in batch mode (for example), but it's hardly as revolutionary as extractstream.

...it's hardly as revolutionary as extractstream. No question there. I know it's simply a way to do something that's already been done, but in a broader sense, it allows someone with minimal skills to easily strip the drm from .tivo files.

To those who are familiar with graphedit and directshow filters, it's pretty much a non-event. To those who read, "Step one - Open Graphedit ...." and shoot off to office depot to get graph paper (;)), it may very well be seen as a revolutionary event.

It may not be a big event to the members here, but to the readers at the other forum it could be something special.

So in a historical sense, I was just wondering if this was a "first".

and since there's not much going on at work today my mind just drifts about, ....and this is what it landed on.
