View Full Version : External Video Insertion?

I have a bunch of videos, DVD, VHS, 8MM, etc. that I'd like to make available via my HMO network. I have some DTivo's (RID) and a standalone S2SA.

My first question: Is there any way to rip my DVD's into the Tivo format for insertion to a DTivo?

Secondly: I've looked at doing this via the S2SA. Hooking the vhs/etc. source to the RCA inputs, but it appears too cumbersome to set the recording (i.e. scheduling the recording vs. being able to hit some sort of RECORD NOW/STOP) buttons. Does anyone have a suggestion for making this process easier?

Thanks,
Doc

Now, this could actually work. If you have both your tivos hacked (to avoid encryption/CSO issues w/ MRV) then videos re-recorded to your SA could be transferred to your DTivo. As to automating in, I'm not away of anything that could handle this directly.

if you insist on getting and playing it on a TiVo you have an uphill battle. Why not just buy a networked media /player or modded XBOX running XBMC?

or get one of these LINK (http://www.iodata.com/products/products.php?cat=HNP&sc=AVEL&ts=2&tsc=15&sc=AVEL&pId=AVLP2%2FDVDLA)

Don't know how much different the S2 is from the S1. I use my SAS1 to record from video frequently and if you set a manual recording you should be able to get what you want.

How big of a pain in the a** is it that you have to set the start/end times? I was hoping for the convenience of a VCR, hit record to start recording now, hit stop to stop. Even something hack based would be acceptable.

Should be able to do something similar. Start the source playback and change the channel on the TiVo to some channel that has a large window...music channels, HNN, C-SPAN. TiVo starts recording buffer on the channel change and you tell it to stop when you're ready. All you have to worry about then is making sure the end time is far enough in the future for your whole recording.

I guess I could set the end time to be a ridiculous time in the future, then manually stop. Hmmm, I never though of setting it to a channel with a long play time. I'll have to play with that. Thanks for the pointer!

cwingert says he can schedule a manual recording in about 5 seconds with this tivoweb module. (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=117985)
