I got my HR10-250 yesterday and started to hack it today but I am having no luck.
Here is what I have done.
1) Backed up original drive before even starting the receiver for the first time
2) Configured receiver and activated access card with DTV
3) Removed drive and hooked it up to the PC and did the following:
a) tried running killhdinitrd on /dev/hdc6 but got an error about invalid kernel - I saw that my kernel is 3.1.5e so I downloaded the 3.1.5 kenel and installed it in the /dev/hdc6 partition
b) followed DKSmooth's guide to configure the nic / telnet / ftp / usb. I double checked the files I created and they are correct.
I have the linksys USB200M ethernet adapter but I can't get it to work. The tivo boots, still shows 3.1.5e, but no network and no lights on the adapter. I checked the adapter in a PC and it works just fine.
Questions / problems:
1) I don't have a serial cable and since I don't have networking I can't run bootpage to see the active partition. I then reinstalled the 3.1.5 kernel to /dev/hdc6 and /dev/hdc3 in case the other partition was active. The tivo still shows version 3.1.5e (maybe it should regardless of the kernel - not sure but after changing both kernels I still got 3.1.5e as the software version).
I checked my edits on /dev/hdc7 again and they all look correct.
I tried to mount /dev/hdc4 but it won't mount. I get errors about a non-valid partition when trying to mount it. I am assuming based on this that it is actually using 6/7 and not 3/4 but don't know for sure.
I can mount 7 and 9 nor problems.
So I am not sure where to go from here. How do I know I have the 3.1.5 kernel activated? Should the software version show 3.1.5 or 3.1.5e? If it should show 3.1.5 any ideas what I am doing wrong?
Should I be able to mount /dev/hdc4 even if it was not used? I am not sure why I can't mount this.
I am assuming Dsmooth's instructions for setting up the network are correct but I followed them exacly and no lock. To verify: you create the rc.sysinit.author in the /etc/rc.d directory correct? And you create the .profile in the root directory correct? It says the permissions for rc.sysnint.author should be 755 (which I made them) but did not specify profile. I left them as default as well as changing them to 755 but no luck.
