Two Tivo Pioneer Series I units both have the same problem.

If I doze off while a show is playing I wake up to a screen that is black on top and brown on the bottom. If I leave it sit in Tivo Central I end up with half screen with the Tivo Central background. The units are not totaly crashed in that they still respond to remote. The tivo is not crashed, it still records the todo list and responds to the remote. IIRC there is a timer intended to keep the screen from buring in on the menu's. It looks like the timer goes off but something goes wrong when the switch to live TV should take place.

I was thinking that I may have messed up the image I used to upgrade them (previous time) so I purchased an instaCake CD from ptvupgrade. I upgraded one unit but it still has the same problem. I did not format or erase the disk prior to running instaBake. Did not run the copykern tools but the unit shows full hours for a 160. I am thinking that since it changed to lba it must have reformated the disk ?

Regarding the units.
Both units are lifetime subed and purchased in the early days. Both bave seen several disk upgrades and have been loaded with tivoweb etc. Both have turbonet cards. I can not say for sure when the problem first showed up. The ptvupgrade'd unit is now loaded with ptv put on the image, nothing else, unless there are artifacts from the pervious install..

The instaBake'd unit a 160 Gig. The other has the 120.

Thanks

What do the kernel and message logs say?

They're in /var/log
