Encryption/Decryption choices

Scenario: I have a SAT-T60 (3.1.0c2) that has been hacked w/CacheCARD.iso & tivoflashed that I want to use TyTool to preserve some of the recordings I have -which are currently encrypted.

If I followed the old threads/thoughts correctly on this scenario, it appears that I have two options:

a) Follow Alphawolf's instructions to patch tivoapp so that future recordings are stored clear-text -but not allowing me to stream/record previously recorded programs;

-or-

b) Use insmod unscramble.o to view/record the encrypted streams w/TyTool, etc. and unload when finished

Did I sum that up correctly ?

Or, option c), which is to do both, allowing you to record new programs decrypted, yet still extract the older, encrypted programs. That's what I did, and it worked great.

Using the kernel patch has no effect on older recordings, and the kernel module won't interfere with newer, decrypted recordings.

Theres really no reason at all to use the older kernel based methods. If you read through the thread you'll notice that the tivoapp method allows encrypted streams to play fine, it is the kernel method that does not.

I took your posting to mean that =future= recordings would be unscrambled with your 'method' allowing Tytools, etc. easy access. I also took away that the previous encrypted shows would be viewable on the Tivo unit itself -but not accessible from TyTools, etc.

Did I get that wrong? I was about to try unscramble.o but I'll wait and see if you reply later.

Other than the part where you called it my method, you are correct. I didn't read your post all the way, at first I thought you were referring to noscramble.o. unscramble.o will work fine.

This rocks! I just got my first ty stream from my SAT-T60 ;)

CacheCARD v2.2 @ 3.95 meg/sec transfer rate ;)

Now to figure out the rest (burning to DVD for PC/Home viewing using TyTools)....
