I have a series2, which I monted about a year ago.
Since then, the new software revision (supporting the Tivo2Go and such) is coming out. I believe my tivo has downloaded it, but i'm not sure, since every night at 2am, my tivo restarts.
I've seen many posts asking how to change it, but I've not seen many regarding what happens to the monte after you upgrade software. Does the monte remain? Do you need to un-monte before upgrading?
Should I even upgrade? I am happy with what I have now, but I thought perhaps some new features could be fun.

I believe my tivo has downloaded it, but i'm not sureDid you use Sleeper's iso to monte? If so, then you do not have the latest software update because the iso disabled the software update in the bootpage.
I've seen many posts asking how to change it, but I've not seen many regarding what happens to the monte after you upgrade softwareIf you modified the bootpage and it did update the software, then it would have wiped out your old monte (again, assuming you sleepered). The newest software would be running in the alternate partitions, which the iso put half of the monte in, so it would have wiped out that half the monte rendering your current setup worthless (your tivo would still run using the newest unhacked software, but your old setup with the hacks would be half gone). So you'll have to rehack to get it the way you had it again.
Should I even upgrade?Definitely, you can't get the newest software to run on your tivo without upgrading your monte. The old way has also been deprecated and is unnecesarily complicated. I monted my tivo using the new method, and it works like a champ. I haven't monted into the 7.2 yet (the TivoToGo release), but will as soon as I get a little extra time, the process is the exact same. Check out the link here (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37570) for manually monteing a tivo the new way, and there's even a post in that thread on how to upgrade your existing sleeper'd hacked tivo to the new better method while you tivo is still running!

(Shudder at misinformation).
If your TiVo is rebooting every night it has certainly downloaded the upgrade, but the install is being blocked by the 'upgradesoftware=false' parameter. You can use this to your advantage.
You don't mention what type of TiVo you have, or how you Monte'd it. If you used TiVoScripts (Sleeper's iso), these ( http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showpost.php?p=196162&postcount=3) instructions will show you how to do it. If you are running 3.1.1x software on a DirecTiVo, substitute the 3.1.1c kernel.
The are many posts regarding upgrading with the drive in the TiVo, do a little seraching and learn how to do it. The total process - un-monteing, upgrading, and hacking can be done in about half an hour.

(shutter in embarassment)
since every night at 2am, my tivo restartoops. must have glossed over that line. It still wouldn't have installed though, and the upgrade steps remain the same. Use either the link I send earlier or PlainBill's to do it.

I apologize for the lack of information I provided, as it was bed time ;)
I have the Series 2 SA. I used Sleeper's ISO last time. I did it so long ago, I can't honestly remember what I did, or how I did it ;)
It seems most people are saying to do the upgrade. I may just take my old backup hard drive (yea, I read the instructions from SLeeper's, and kept the backup) and work from that, instead of unhacking.
Thanks guys for your inputs, I'll be giving it a shot within the week.
