Im sorry this is probabaly a dumb question...with a really answer but Im not seeing it.

I have a SAS2 running a sleepered 4.01b and just didnt see the advantage to changing to killhdinitrd with the exception of a simplier hack?

please let me know?

1) With Sleeper's, its impossible to upgrade via slices without first removing his [outdated] monte configuration.
2) With Sleeper's, its incredibly difficult to backup a hacked drive.
3) With Sleeper's, you learn nothing in the process of hacking.

All three of those are not true of using killhdinitrd. There are more reasons, but frankly, that should be enough.

Well, I'm going to dispute several of these.

1) Is sort of true; it IS possible, but you would have to have detailed knowledge of how TiVoScripts worked OR reuse TiVoScript to rehack the drive after upgrading. (I actually did this once, but blame it on the fact that I was young and didn't know any better. :o )

2) If anything, it is even worse than you claim.

3) True, but that's in the past. And replacing the Monte with killhdinitrd won't teach that much about hacking.

4) Replacing the outdated hacks TiVoScripts installed will definitely teach you a lot about hacking - and make you appreciate the people who created them.

But the best reason is 5) Your system will boot faster.

What do you mean by upgrade via slices?

I like what i hear with Boot up faster...as it takes forever now.

Thanks Guys I will probably be trying the switch

Upgrade via slices refers to the upgrading of a running OS via the application of the small files Tivo sends down the pipeline that essentially constitutes only the difference between the old and the new OS. (this is as opposed to upgrading by re-imaging the drive with a full image of the new OS, which is what you'd have to do w/ Sleeper's ISO).

The boot up speed is, in my experience, at least twice as fast.
