Hi,

I was seduced by the thought of a longer preview buffer and decided to install hackman and the 32a-03 extension. I've moved the image, module, and bin files to the target dir's, chmod'd the sendkey and find binaries (why is one named bin_mips/sendkey and the other bin_ppc/SendKey?? nobiggie).

I've restarted & quick loaded tivioWeb, but I don't see any change. Go to UI/Preferences = nothing new. Could be that my hacks are in directories not seen by hackman & so I went looking for an ini or cfg file. Can't find them in the tivoweb directory tree (this is where'd they be, right?).

Just to be sure, I have TivoWebPlus installed which went into /var/local/tivoweb-tcl & this is where I put the hackman stuff.

I also added /var/local/tivoweb-tcl to my path thinking that might help.

It looks like hackman is not starting up. I must be missing something. Any help sorting out what's happening (or not happening) is much appreciated...

You've already answered the question - the binaries are required. PPP is for the Power Pc Processor used in the Series 1; mips is for the mips processer used in Series 2 systems.

My reading suggests hackman's tcl loads within tivoweb. So aside from the two binaries added to the bin_mips directory (find and sendkey), and the hackman.itcl which goes in the module directory, what is additionally needed?

I've read the installation instructions a few times now. And it's not clear to me what step I'm missing.

TIA,
Ron

Are you properly setting the permissions?
Shut down tivoweb, and restart it through bash by moving to the modules folder and executing ./tivoweb console This will let you watch it load, and give you an idea of what's going wrong.

I love HackMan myself, but if all you are trying to do is increase your buffer, why not just run bufferhack? (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37240)

I've restored my box to it's "before" state.

I don't run a console (another wire? yuck), but do everything via telnet & logs.

Hackman ran ./bin_mips/find but it would not run ./bin_mips/sendkey! It insisted on going to ./bin_ppc/SendKey and failed. I've checked the rights on sendkey (755) and it's ok.

Funny, when I could http://tivo (my local box), "user interface" "now playing" did not show the "view" selection. I failed to check cfg, but I'd guess TyShowLinks was zero (how'd that happen?).

I'll have another run at the fence later.

Q: I have not researched this, but thought I'd ask "blind". I've had reason to shut down tivosh (ps ax & kill xxx) expecting to restart the bugger, but my telnet session errors out when I do that and it takes some time before I can telnet back into the box. Is the box rebooting?? here's a good reason to run a console. I would not have thought telnet and http: would be so tightly coupled.

G'night all (or good morning)

Ron

Who said anything about another wire?

I stand by my last advice.
Shut down tivoweb, Telnet into it, cd to the right directory, and run the command.
It'll show you what's going on in real time.

If you are running an S2 why are the ppc binaries even on your machine?

And as far as asking if your tivo is rebooting, Good Lord Man, look at the TV.
If the TiVo is rebooting, it's rebooting. Seems like a surefire way to answer that question.
(by the way, killing a tivosh process will do that)
