Use DTivo Sony SAT T60 With Cable TV Connection?

Hi,

I just got a DTivo Sony SAT T60 from a friend. I don't have DirecTV myself, I have only Comcast cable TV connection. So can I use this DTivo with Comcast cable TV connection?

I plan on mod it to v2.5 then upgrade to v3.1. But FAQ said something like v3.1 won't work without DirecTV subscription. Is it true?

DirecTivos are for use with DirecTV only. They do not have internal VHF/UHF tuners nor do they have the mpeg encoders required for use with an analog source. DirecTivos won't work without a DTV subscription, regardless of the OS version.
