View Full Version : What do I need to uninstall before selling?

We're very nearly done switching almost 100 hours worth of programming from our old SAT-T60 to an HDVR2 with 4.x. (It will be nice to be able to use MRV with the uma6fix'ed DTiVo downstairs, finally.)

Now, the question has arisen of what to do with the SAT-T60. After we perform a CD&E, we have a couple of options.

The unit has a TurboNet card, PROM compromised by the TurboNet installation software, 3.0.1c, and a slew of hacks. Obviously no uma6fix, and no killhdinitrd.

Other than mfs_ftp (which I'm aware of), what hacks will I need to uninstall before putting the unit on eBay? It would be handy if there were some kind of master list.

Also: we have a friend with two children and DirecTV who keeps hearing about TiVo from us. We're considering giving the unit to him as a gift. Do the same restrictions apply on all the hacks when it's being given away, as opposed to sold for gain?

Thanks in advance for your advice, all.

I'm curious about this myself.
I'm getting ready to get rid of 3 S1's.

One of them is my living room unit, it's got a cachecard, running mfs_ftp, TWP, ftp, and tytool.

I would leave everything as is and sell it or give it away.
That's what I did when I gave one of my DSR6K w/2~120GB HDD, cachecard, and most of the hacks away. All I did was activated the newer S2 dtivo, then deactivate the old one and told them I'm giving it away to my cousin... and that was it.. when my cousin got the DSR6K, all he did was activate it under his account and all was good...

A Big Difference.

If I was giving it away, I wouldn't even ask.
But since I'm selling it, I need permission from the developers of some hacks.
Says so real clear in the README's

Actualy, I now see that one of th OP's options is to give it away.

You could always delete or rename your rc.sysinit.author and most of the hacks would be turned off/disabled.

Incorrect. If the software is still there, you are still breaking the license.

You could always take the image backup you made before you started messing with the unit and re-apply it to the unit.

Better yet, take the ORIGINAL hard drive that you put on the shelf when it was new back in it...then it will be exactly as a brand new unit would be with very little effort on your part.

Well, this is back from many many moons ago, before the S2's came out, when I was a cocky little fool. No backup image, and the original drive is the one that was hacked.

If you give it away, don't worry about it.
If you sell it, look at the readme's for your hacks and see what they say.

Bufferhack, mfs_ftp, and TyTool, are 3 that need to be removed, or have permission granted. There may be others.
