How to gain remote login?

Hi, I am just starting out as a cracker. I have been experimenting with nmap and managed to get the hostnames of several servers and the os they are using. From this stage how can I gain user or admin logon? Can anyone suggest some programs.
If I have the ip address of the computer, the os it is using and its hostname, what program would I need to get root or admin login and how would I get login details?
