I am very new to this so here it goes. I just finished the JohnnyDeath install. All went well tivo boots and works fine. USB is working I am able to Telnet Tivo fine. My question is: I have another Tivo that I bought a worked drive for, when I want to download a recorded show I telnet in and start the Tyserver then Tytools and I download my shows. How is this done with the Johnny Death ? Do I have to install Tyserver ? I hope this is not a stupid question.
Thanks

I'm not quite sure what you mean by a "Johnnydeath install." The Johnnydeath CD is nothing more than another version of MFS Tools with a few extra utilities added. It was used with the original version of the monte install (i.e., pre-Sleeper's tivoscript), although it was more likely the BASH_ENV method using cobelli's guide, so it sounds like you're using a hacking method that is seriously out of date. Johnnydeath's CD also has nothing to do with video extraction. TyTools and TyServer are also completely different utilities used for extraction and do not work in conjunction with each other. You may want to go back and look through the sticky threads to learn some background info before going any further with your hacks as you have a lot of catching up to do.

Thanks for your reply. I did use the BASH_ENV=\`mount\$IFS- method. I am just starting to read about the different upgrades so I did not know which is new or which is outdated. The Tivo I am using is a spare so its good to pratice on. That being said I did install Telnet, HU card, Lifetime-sub, FTP server, Tytools, USB 2.0 Ethernet , the machine boots and seems to work fine. These are all the hacks I installed.
Thanks Again

Thanks Again

mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/c
dd if=/mnt/c/tivo/hd3.img of=/dev/hdc3
dd if=/mnt/c/tivo/hd4.img of=/dev/hdc4
dd if=/mnt/c/tivo/hd6.img of=/dev/hdc6
dd if=/mnt/c/tivo/hd7.img of=/dev/hdc7
dd if=/mnt/c/tivo/hd9.img of=/dev/hdc9
dd if=/mnt/c/tivo/monte_romfs.img of=/dev/hdc16

mount /dev/hdb /cdrom
cd /cdrom

bootpage -P "root=/dev/hda4 dsscon=true console=2,115200
BASH_ENV=\`mount\$IFS-n\$IFS/dev/hda16\$IFS/mnt;echo\$IFS/mnt/runmonte\`" -C /dev/hdc
One last question how can I find out which directory Tytools was installed in? Which hacking method is the most current?

That would depend on what model you have. Check out the 4.x + RID thread for the latest method of hacking a S2 DTivo.

I know that I have alot of reading to do. Which I have been doing. Based upon the hack's that I listed in the above post. I know Tytools was included How do I find out the directory Tytools was installed. How do I find out the path to start Tserver. I can FTP and Putty into the drive with no problem.

Thanks for the help.

Most likely in your usr/ or var/hack directory..
