Question I have the DRD6000 with the 2 drives. I found a backup that is for the one drive setup. I have a 40 gig drive but it is not a quantum, can it be made to work?
Thanks,
Jason

And also if I do the one drives setup, can I come in and add another drive in the near future also.
Thanks,
Jason

You can use an image from a single drive unit to replace the software on a 2.5 two drive system I Used a virgin backup found on this board yesterday. After attempting to use my own image and failing, I used a 2.0.1 version and started from scratch. After the normal installation was completed it downloaded 2.5 and I then added a 60 GB second drive now my DirecTivo has 86 hours recording capacity. The only thing that I was warned about is that the replacement drive needed to be at least a 40GB drive. I used 2 60GB drives that I found at a local electronics outlet for 104 dollars each.

So what you're saying is that once your dtivo has taken the 2.5 upgrade you can restore over that with 2.0.1 and it will work again with 2.0.1?
I'm confused about this because I thought the 2.5 upgrade included an update to the prom (for digital signature logic?) and I wouldn't have thought the new prom code is backward compatible to 2.0.1.

I used the 2.0.1 virgin to get around the problem that 2.5 has that you can only restore the backup image back to the 2.5 machine that it came from. I have 2 DirecTiVo's 1 had a single 40GB Quantum and the other had a 30GB and a 15GB. I tried to restore the 40GB unit's backup image to a new 40GB drive for use in the two drive unit, so that I could add an additional 60GB drive to it. After I restored the image file from the single drive unit It came up with (error 51 call TiVo and the TiVo serial number was all 0's) After following another discussion threds suggestion, I restored a 2.0.1 virgin backup to the new 40GB drive then allowed it to do its initial phone call configs. After it did the two setup calls the first real call downloaded 2.5 over the 2.0.1 virgin install. Now I have a backup copy of the 2.5 version for each of my DirecTiVo's and added a 60GB (that cost me $104 each) drive to each of my units. I now have 2 86 hour DirecTiVo's with a unique backup for each unit. Hope this helps
