View Full Version : FTP connection closed / cannot mount partition 4,7,9

I recently installed and configured a wired TurboNet card in my series 1 and had FTP, Telnet and TivoWebPlus all working. When I went to copy/install TyTools on the box I lost my FTP connection and now get this error whenever I try to FTP to the box:

Connected to 192.168.0.3.
Connection closed by remote host.

Telnet still works, but the TivoWebPlus connection cannot be reestablished either. In retesting the Telnet connection (after having used Steve Jenkins instructions on how to set everything up) the LS and other commands no longer work. Also the /var/hack directory is now missing. The tivosh command still works and PS does not show the FTP process to be running.

I have tried rebooting the PC, router, cable modem, and TiVo to no avail. Also tried rerunning the TurboNet install procedure and found I now cannot mount Partition 4 or 7 or 9 on my A drive (that really seems strange). However, some of the hacks I implemented still work – the modified Telnet prompt for instance - so it seems the startup files are still modified and work to a point. The TiVo itself still works fine and will still use the network for daily calls…

After saying all this, my question is – has anyone seen this issue and how do I resolve the problem with the mount points and FTP? Besides watching recorded shows on my PC I would ultimately like to play MP3 files on the TiVo (if this is even possible on a Series one).

Thanks in advance!

If you had all the missing hacks installed in /var, then it probably got deleted. TiVo's startup file (rc.sysinit) has a provision for making sure there is plenty of room on /var. If you can telnet in you can transfer your hacks back to the TiVo for installation again using zmodem (rz on the TiVo side--make sure your root is rw or transfer files to /var which is rw by default).

That sounds like what happened…using your suggestion I have another problem…

When I try to use HyperTerminal and xfer the files using the zModem protocol, it crashes every time. I looked for zModem itself but found nothing that will work on my XP system. Is there another way to xfer the files?

Any ideas on why I can’t connect to the partitions on the A drive when I connect the hard drive directly to a PC and boot to Linux (using the Jenkins boot CD)? This is what I used initially and it worked without a hitch.

Thanks for the help ew.

Try the serial cable for the file transfer. Or set up a web server on the PC side and use http_get on the TiVo side.

As for why you can't access the partitions, my best guess is that you are using a Linux CD that doesn't detect byteswapping automatically, that it doesn't allow byteswapping on the primary master, that your drive is locked, or that you have the drive jumpered incorrectly (and I don't feel the need to pull a drive out to figure out which would cause this exact problem).

Did you make / RW?
