View Full Version : Going backwards (I feel like a newbie again :) )......

I have a Sleepered HDVR2 (running 4.X), and I now want to undo what seems to have been a mistake. While Ive had no major issues (I get a couple annoying debug messages once in a while, but it doesnt affect anything in regards to operation and usage of my HDVR2), I would like to undo what was done, and just wait for DirecTV to upgrade me. Then maybe one day I can apply the hacks again to the new s/w.

So, my question is what the correct way would be. I still have my original Tivo drive, so I assume I can just take out the sleepered drive (160GB), image the original back onto it, expand it, and then pop it back into Tivo. At this point, would I be ready just to receive 6.2? (once D* decides Im worthy of the upgrade) I wasnt sure if, for some odd reason, the upgrade on mine is queued right now, would I "miss" it if I went back to my original setup. Or, would it just download and wait for me to make a daily call.

I know there are probably easier ways to get rid of the Sleeper stuff, but Ive found that I dont use the networking hacks as much as I thought I would, so its not such a huge deal if I get them back. For me, having 6.2 (officially) outweighs having the hacks, for now at least. The greatest thing 4.X gave me was Folders. And 6.2 will have them, so I can be happy.

I apologize if I couldnt find the correct information in a search. Most of the things Ive seen only reference removing Sleepers kernel stuff, without clearing off the whole drive. Maybe because its as easy as I described here, but Id like to be 100% sure before I go "TivoLess" for a small amount of time (the wife loves Tivo more than I, so I need to have everything ready to minimize downtime).

Thanks in advance!!!

Yeah, it's that easy. You probably have a backup already on your FAT drive (the one you made before Sleepering) that you can use. As long as you don't want anything that's on the drive.
