I was just wondering what happens if you order a PPV movie on directv and have the no call script active? Will DTV eventually find out about it, or would you need to call it in (if possible)?

They'll find out about it only when it calls in. Eventually they'll take away your ability to order with the remote if you don't call in.

'No call' has nothing to do with DirecTV and PPV; it only prevents the call to TiVo. IF you have a phone line hooked up, it's already called DirecTV; if not, Hayreass' answer is correct.

That's what i thought too, but how would DTV even know if it's not calling it? they rely on the receiver to know it hasn't called in, but if you have the no call fix running, the tivo thinks it has made the necessary calls, so it would think it did tell DTV about the PPV, no?

Ahhh, I see. Why can the No call scripts be run on Tivo 3.1.1 then? Simply to get rid of the 14 day thing?

To use the proper name of the package, 'fakecall' works by updating several values which specify the time the lat call occured, and the time the next call will be attempted. By bumping these forward every day we make sure the nag never appears.

Thanks, i couldn't remember the real name atm.

So, basically ordering a PPV would set off a different set of variables that fakecall would not reset and eventually force a call to DTV or reduced service?

Also, can you order PPV on 4.0? If so, how would you go about doing it? Just order it and make sure you're plugged into the phoneline?

Edit: Just looked on 4.0 and saw that all the PPVs say to call. I guess I'll stick to ordering PPV online.

I think super_patch disables the ability to order PPV with the remote.

Surely you don't believe that, after a card swap costing millions upon millions of dollars, a simple TCL script is sufficient to convince your access card that the PPV movies have been reported.

DTiVo units running 4.x should never be connected to the phone line, because you don't want a TiVo call to accidentally slip through.

One misconception here. Regular DirecTV receivers call DirecTV every month, even if you haven't ordered PPV. I would expect DirecTiVo's also do this.

heh, I would hope it would not be that simple!

I did not realize that the PPVs are actually stored onto the Access card. that clears it all up, thanks a lot guys
