I know I may catch slack for this "newbie" question, but that's why I posted it here! I got around this week to fool around with the 4.0 SA software and loaded it up after a few hours of reading (been out of the loop for a bit), but not sure what the difference is?

I installed the 4.x on a spare HD and have been swapping hard drives to fool around, but my other HD is sleepered with all the scripts and it works fine, which is why I never bothered to toy around with it. Now that it is installed on my other HD, I can't tell the difference besides the IP settings confing, but I haven't read too much about the pictures or movies (if that is even capable of running/working; I thought I came across something about after 30 days) Anyways... sorry for the long post for jabbering, but what is the benefit....if any versus the regular 3.x software???

Just curious wheter to stick with my current 3.x or leave my 4.x SA on my dvr40?

Thanks....

Especially to the guys who always make this possible...

Huge,Riley,NutKase, Alphawolf...etc...... (U know who U guys R)!!

Depends. Do you want folders (available anyway with 6.2), MRV and HMO? If so, you need 4.x

What version of 4.x does a person need? I know the DTV software is different than the software for the SAS2 boxes, but even the SAS2 boxes are different from each other.

I haven't verified this myself, but I've read that the menus are slightly quicker on 4.0.1b than on 4.0. I would just get hold of AlphaWolf's 4.0.1b sliceset and upgrade to 4.0.1b with slices. The thread discussing this is in the General TiVo Discussions forum.

I'd recomend just going to 6.2. I've provided a post in the Series 2 forum that collects all the hacking info for it, and at this point its entirely viable. Plus its easier than 4.x, not to mention being faster (and being the actual version DTIVO expects).

For me personally, until 6.2 is hacked to enable MRV, I'd rather have 4.0.1b. (Although I did buy a third DTiVo to play with that will have a drive with 6.2.)

Thanks for the suggestion! I think I might toy around with 6.2, but my only question after reading your guide....is where do those slices/loopsets go if I can download them from somewhere? Do they go In the root directory on the tivo or any created folder? If I can't find them online, how can I force download them and in what folder of do they get put into?

Thanks!
