ok, i just bought a DSR6000 to replace my SA tivo.
After spending 3 hours reading post ...( my eyes hurt by now :( )
I understand that theres no way to get bash with 2.5? meaning no way to run phone line fix scripts so it wont ever call home. correct?
So... i dont mind paying 9.95 for tivo, and whatever minumum is for programming. All i want is to use my hacked cam, and when it needs to call out, i simply plug my sub cam and let it call.
I guess my questions is about those logs... how i can get rid of them?
so if im paying for minimum sub, but logs showing i watched every ppv 24/7. is there way around this...
some other ways i can do this?
i'm confused at this point. please help.

I also just purchases a Philips DSR6000R and want to do the same thing. It's clearly impossible to bash with 2.5 but I still want to watch PPV with my hacked HU. If I simply put my subbed HU in during the week, with the phone line connected, and the put the hacked on in, disconnecting the phone line, when ever I want, will I be safe?
I read somewhere that you could request that your viewing data not be submitted to TiVo. The manual actually details the differences between "Personal Viewing Information" and "Anonymous Viewing Information." From what I read, the personal information is never being transmitted, unless you ask them to change this setting and you can ask that TiVo restrict your anonymous information from being sent (pages 124 -127 of the Viewer's Guide). Are my assumptions correct?

Just an FYI for those of you that are placing test cards into a subbed receiver: The receiver remembers the last few cards that it has serviced, and can report this when it calls home.

Cant report them if syslog/klog aren't running. and it can't report it's Tivo Service number if you replace /tvbin/crypto with an empty text file marked executable.

If the unit is going to send the last few test card IDs, couldn't I simply clone my sub card and use a script to open it up. This way the actual test card ID would match the sub card. Moreover, if I've restricted TiVo's access to any of the details concerning my viewing habbits and still Dave comes back to me with claims of "improper use", wouldn't that be like illegal search and seizure? Am I streaching with this?

It would seem to be a violation of their privacy policy, so you could start a civil lawsuit against tivo for that while dtv starts criminal prosecution against you for stealing services. And I dont think the "fruits of a poisoned tree" defense would apply because tivo is not a law enforcement agency.
Even if the cam id on your emu bin matches your card there will still be the issue of your channel watching activities (incl ppv) not matching dtv billing records. You definitely want to nip it in the bud and make sure that the logs arent forwarded. Tread carefully.

How about using the orginal sub card, unplug phone for 28 days, add tiers to orginal sub card, buy pay per views, erase ppv and reboot before plugging phone line back in??
