It is my belief that my drive has gone bad in my Sony 30 hour unit. I have explored my options and checked around, and believe that my best bet is to not only replace the drive, but upgrade to a bigger one. I have had conversations with various people and I am going to send it to one of the places online that do upgrades and whatnot. The price is right, compared to the $92 flat fee that Sony will charge me. And I like the idea of having over twice as much space....This brings me to my question...
A friend of mine has warned me about the possibility of TiVo putting code into their software that makes your TiVo useless unless it has a "TiVo" or factory drive. I have searched the forums, but have not put the correct wording in the search tool to find my answer. Please direct me to the correct post, or give me some information about this rumor, as I don't want to end up with a useless TiVo. Also, any suggestions would also be helpful.
Just to be 100% sure, there are not and should not be any worries about TiVo changing the software to not work with drives that don't come from TiVo(or Sony, or Phillips)in my Sony 30 hour SVR-2000? Please tell me if there are any concerns...I realize I'm being overly cautious, but I'm just that type of person...
